New Anaphylaxis Requirements for Schools – Sept 2026

In March 2026, the Government announced new statutory (mandatory) guidance coming into force from September 2026, often referred to as Benedict’s Law.

This will require schools to:

  • Hold spare adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPens) on site

  • Ensure all staff are trained in recognising and responding to anaphylaxis

With increasing reports of severe allergic reactions in schools — sometimes caused by children being given the wrong food or milk — this is a timely reminder of how quickly these situations can develop.

In an emergency, immediate action is critical:

  • Call 999

  • Use an adrenaline auto-injector if available

  • Keep the child flat with legs raised (unless breathing is difficult)

  • Stay with them and monitor their condition

At BSS Training, we provide dedicated Allergy & Anaphylaxis training for school staff.

Our sessions are designed to:

  • Build staff confidence

  • Support compliance with the new requirements

  • Prepare your team to respond quickly and effectively

  • Fit around your school schedule (including INSET days and twilight sessions)
